Just returned from the Under Armour Junior Combine at the ESPN Wide World of Sports facility at Disney. There were 200 prospects in attendance, including several Notre Dame prospects and potential Notre Dame prospects.
Here are some quick thoughts from today’s events:
NOTRE DAME RECRUITS
One of Notre Dame’s top quarterback recruits for the Class of 2013 worked out at today’s combine. Matt Alviti (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) is on the shorter side at about 6-foot-0, but he is put together well. He looks thicker than this listed weight of 175 pounds. Alviti showed a live arm during the quarterback drills but struggled to find a consistent release point. He needs work from a mechanical standpoint but I was impressed with the way the ball jumped off his hand. Alviti gets good rotation on the football and can really spin it well. When the ball comes off his hand properly it flies off his hand and quickly gets on receivers. Alviti was just okay during the quarterback-only drills, showing a good arm but struggling to find a proper release point.
I would not classify Alviti as a quarterback that has a great arm, but after seeing him today I do not see a throw on the field he won’t be able to make.
