Desmond Lawrence already had some impressive offers, but the North Carolina cornerback was still excited about adding Notre Dame to a list that already included North Carolina, North Carolina State, Duke, South Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia.
“I was honored,” said Lawrence. “It’s a big-time school and a big-time program, so it’s pretty cool to be wanted by them.”
The 6-foot, 180-pound Charlotte native plays at Charlotte Christian, the same school that produced current Notre Dame freshman Matthias Farley. Lawrence caught up with his former teammate shortly after picking up the offer from Irish assistant Mike Elston, the coach who recruited Farley to South Bend.
“I talked to Matthias a couple days after they offered me,” said Lawrence. “He was just telling me that I needed to get up there and see the environment and how it’s not like any other school, things like that.”
