Despite the fact that Notre Dame already has a commitment at quarterback in the Class of 2013 and that’s the position Johnny Stanton prefers to play, the California prospect made the trip to South Bend for last weekend’s Blue-Gold Game and he’s glad he did.
“It was really cool,” the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder from Santa Margarita Catholic High School (Santa Margarita, Calif.) said. “I loved the school.
“The tradition around the school is so impressive. Being able to see the Four Horsemen statute and all of the Heisman trophies in the Gug was cool.”
Stanton, who has offers from Air Force, Colorado and Washington as a quarterback, could also probably play safety, although he prefers to be behind center. Notre Dame assistant Mike Denbrock explained the situation with the Irish already having a pledge from Malik Zaire at the position.
