Few players, if any, get the kind of welcome to varsity football that Jimmy Byrne got last year.
The 2014 offensive lineman from Cleveland was thrust into action by perennial power St. Ignatius at the most crucial time.
“We had an injury on the offensive line during the playoffs,” the 6-foot-4, 285-pounder said. “The coaching staff felt it would be a good idea to have me go in, so I started the next four games including our state championship.”
Byrne was up to the challenge and helped St. Ignatius when that state title.
