Irish Sports Daily – Rees and Calabrese Staying Home

Jul 31, 2012 /

Rees1030S4Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly has suspended junior quarterback Tommy Rees and senior linebacker Carlo Calabrese for the opening game of the 2012 season versus Navy in Ireland. This move follows a run-in with law enforcement officials that occurred in early May of this year.

The following is the statement released by Kelly earlier today:

“Our players understand that it’s a privilege to be associated with the University of Notre Dame and its football program, but with that comes great responsibility. Carlo and Tommy put themselves in a situation that when given a choice between two distinct paths, they responded with a set of poor decisions. This conduct was inconsistent with my expectations for our football program – especially our veteran, team leaders. Carlo and Tommy will not travel with the team to Ireland and can attempt to climb the depth chart following the conclusion of their respective suspensions.”

Although senior Dan Fox will fill in for Calabrese at linebacker, the question now asks who will start at quarterback for the Irish in Dublin? The two front-runners at this point seem to be sophomore Andrew Hendrix or freshman Everett Golson.
